Whether you're self-publishing or polishing a sample to send to agents, you need to be able to edit your own work. This course will teach you how to approach your writing with an editor's eye, honing your skill set and giving you an in-depth understanding of the editorial process. The course will mainly focus on developmental editing, which looks at the big picture (plot development, pacing, structure, tone, etc.), but will also touch on the basics of copyediting (punctuation, grammar, word choice, fact-checking, etc.). You'll leave this class with hands-on editing experience, useful techniques to gain distance from your writing, and tips for creating a style guide for your work.
