Pitching your manuscript to an agent or editor can be nerve-racking. It's easy to lose your train of thought and stumble and mumble your way through. When you only have a few minutes to sell your idea or novel, those minutes need to count!
With so many opportunities to meet agents and editors face-to-face at conferences, “The Pitch” has become an important skill to master. NCW member and author Joe Siple shares his understanding of how to perfect your pitch and move from rejected to represented. This three-hour workshop will focus on an essential element of the pitch--the one-page-overview--and deconstruct each element it should contain. As an experienced public speaker, Joe will also give easy-to-implement tips on how to overcome the inevitable nerves that many writers feel before and during a pitch session.
The first 90 minutes will be devoted to instruction, then participants will spent 30 minutes writing their own pitches. The remaining hour will be reserved for practicing and perfecting your agent-editor pitch!
Joe is a television sportscaster turned novelist and speaker. Before shifting his focus to fiction he had dozens of articles published in a variety of small and mid-sized magazines and wrote a screenplay that placed 7th in the Writers Digest Competition. His debut novel, The Five Wishes of Mr. Murray McBride, is set for release on May 10. Learn more about him by visiting www.joesiple.com.
